Synopsis:
Matchboxes, despite being objects of everyday utility, are packaged in the most fantastical, symbolic imagery, becoming mini-portals to dream worlds. There is unconscious documentation of dreams, desires, fantasies, and histories—all within the tiny frames of disposable boxes. By dint of paradoxical unintentionality, the collector (Gautam Hemmady) ends up with a random assortment of data, which, when assembled in various ways, gives the impression of meaningful information. This information, in turn, can be artificed into semblances of knowledge and even wisdom, especially when seen with other available sources of historical information. Like pixels on a screen, the juxtaposition of these palmful snippets can be jumbled in innumerable ways, generating innumerable narrative loops, none of them complete, each neverending. The film attempts to create these loops of meta-narratives held together with the glue of recorded history, breaching them every now and then to withdraw back to the original isolation and unintentionality of the act of collection, and perhaps even the creation of the images.
